The unfortunate thing about Bermuda is that is so damn beautiful and perfect that I tend to be disappointed in other islands or places with beaches. I’m always comparing and none can match its cleanliness, organization, road condition, the people, the whole vibe of the place. That statement might be a little premature since I haven’t tried Antigua, St.Maarten, St.Baths, Cuba or the Bahamas yet. These I’m saving for when my daydreams of sailing trips turn into reality.
“This is an optical illusion created by neuroscientists at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, which shows how images, words and objects can be hidden with textures. If you stand far away from the photo and see Marilyn Monroe, then you need to make an appointment with your eye doctor Asap. Science explains the trick, saying, “Depending on how well you’re able to focus or pick up contrast, your eye will only pick out details. Up close, we’re generally able to pick up fine details like Einstein’s mustache and wrinkles. But as the distance increases, or if your vision is poor and creates a more blurred image in the first place, your ability to pick up details fades away.”
So I hauled ass down to the optometrist, after what seemed like a thousand trial and error retinal scans, it was determined that my left eye is carrying all the load of my concentration whenever I needed to focus on distant objects and even while reading.
Three years ago I found out that eyeglass (decent ones that you want on your face 24/7) cost more than a freaking iPad, the prices tags made my eyes pop and drained my wallet of $600; yes I fell for the anti-glare, UV filter and all that other add on crap . Then months later after wearing my first pair of glasses…lets call it “Face Jewelry” well about 4 months later, one day I forgot to grab it with me, and I realized that the same sign that I previously struggled to read half a block away…I WAS NOW ABLE TO SEE THIS SIGN AGAIN FINE, WITHOUT THE FACE JEWELERY.
At the time, the only thing that I could attribute this to was; I had started a new routine for a month, drinking much more water than usual 101 fl oz a day to be exact, this was to go along with new my workout routine to get down to a lower body fat percentage, this may have inadvertently helped my eyesight, who knows, maybe I was chronically dehydrated for years without knowing it. Either way, stubborned me, happy with whatever the reason, I didn’t have to wear this shit on my face anymore, I ditch the glasses all together until they eventually dissappeared, lost.
Now after seeing Marilyn’s face today, I’m back to square one with this neat looking pair. Had the opinion of three lovely ladies at the optometrist, out of 9 choices, they all choose this nerdy looking piece, which I sort of like too. So I guess this is it, my new look.
The cold weather has been very mild lately but that still does nothing to soothe my itching to get away to a more tropical environment. I tend to not read the news daily, so I am always very behind on current events, which is a bit bad to be uninformed in today’s world, however I think it’s more so that reading about another war or the new thing of the moment ‘underlying racial tensions’ is not what I want to fill my head with in the morning. This morning I did happen to pop open BBC on my iPhone and left the page with a huge smile after just one article. My dream for the past 2 years has been to travel to Cuba to explore the little island frozen in time, and this might soon be possible without using devious means (traveling from Canada/Mexico on my native passport) . Excited to see how this plays out once an embassy is installed in Cuba in a few months.
Took a wrong turn, bike! Fark!
Well.. Bermudian home. Time to pack, sleep and make it back to NYC for 10 am. Tempted to stop by the beach one last time before my flight! I think I will do just that, fuck it, why not!
Speeding by saw a white hibiscus in the corner of my eye. Matches my all white gear, so…I grabbed it along for the ride.
